Alameda Native History Project’s GIS Lab
The Alameda Native History Project GIS Lab was founded by Gabriel Duncan
For the past 6 years of research, the GIS Lab’s focus has been to update the maps and infographics pertaining to Native History using “Shepardized” information and research incorporating the most up-to-date information available.
Our primary products have been the updated Bay Area Shellmounds Map, Alameda Historical Ecology Map, and the Alameda Shellmounds Map; all based upon our exclusive pre-1900 Bay Area Shoreline and Historic Wetlands Map.
We also produced the first 3D Shellmound Model, available in AR. This model was based upon LiDAR surveys of the Bay Area’s surviving shellmounds.
Our other works include local Water Quality Maps & Data used in our Public Science Communication Initiatives and Advocacy for the Ecological Rehabilitation of Alameda, and the Greater Bay Area.
Our work continues to educate the public about Local Native History, and the impacts of manufacturing, development, and the industrial military complex on the local environment.
The data we collect, analyze, and produce, provides the basis for a multidisciplinary approach to adaptation and survival for generations to come.
We are currently preparing to submit the Alameda Native History Project’s GIS Lab for recognition as a “Geo For All” Lab, dedicated to enabling open education opportunities for all.
