Working With Us
At Alameda Native History Project, we believe in working in a good way—with mutual respect, transparency, and shared responsibility. Our programs are built with care, intention, and cultural integrity. This page outlines how we work, what we offer, and what we expect in meaningful partnerships and collaborations.
Inclusion & Non-Discrimination
Alameda Native History Project is Indigenous and Two-Spirit led. We are committed to creating BIPOC-centered spaces that are inclusive of all gender identities, expressions, and orientations.
We recognize that gender diversity is Indigenous. Across Native communities, there have always been roles for people of all genders—including third-gender and non-binary individuals. Our cultures hold stories of transformation, cross-dressing, and ceremonial responsibilities that exist outside of binary gender roles. These identities are traditional. They are not new.
We do not work with individuals or organizations that:
- Fail to recognize the rights of Indigenous and trans people
- Exclude or discriminate based on gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, country of origin, immigration status, or any aspect of identity
- Promote or align with hateful or exclusionary ideologies
Creating inclusive, affirming, and culturally safe spaces is a reflection of who we are.
What We Provide
Alameda Native History Project brings cultural depth, planning experience, and authentic engagement to every collaboration. We offer:
- Mission-Aligned Programming: Community-centered, culturally relevant events grounded in Indigenous knowledge.
- Reliable Planning & Communication: We plan ahead, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly.
- Community Engagement & Outreach: We actively promote and engage with diverse audiences.
- Documentation & Evaluation: We provide flyers, descriptions, and post-event summaries when needed.
What We Value in Partnerships
We thrive in partnerships where responsibilities are clearly defined, communication is responsive, and goals are mutually supported. We believe successful collaborations are built on:
- Clarity: Early, transparent communication helps our programming thrive.
- Shared Responsibility: Each party brings their role to the table.
- Mutual Accountability: We seek honest, solution-focused communication.
- Respect for Mission and Leadership: We expect cultural humility and alignment with our values.
Requests & Representation
We show up with intention, and we expect the same from our partners. Invitations to speak, collaborate, or participate in public programming should reflect a clear understanding of our role, our values, and our responsibilities to community.
- Speaker & Participation Requests
If you are inviting Alameda Native History Project to speak, present, or lead part of a public-facing program, please provide a written request with full context at least 2–4 weeks in advance. We ask that invitations clarify the goals of the event, the audience, and what kind of contribution is being requested. Last-minute or informal requests may not receive a response. - Land Acknowledgment Protocol
When ANHP is invited to participate in events on Muwekma Ohlone territory, we expect proper land acknowledgment protocols to be followed. This means sourcing acknowledgments from individuals with direct tribal ties to this land, not assigning them to unaffiliated individuals or organizations. Land acknowledgments are not a generic formality. They must be approached with respect, accuracy, and consent. - Boundary Against Tokenism / Legitimacy by Association
We also do not accept invitations made solely to add perceived legitimacy or diversity to a program. Our presence should never be used to validate efforts that lack meaningful Indigenous leadership or community grounding. We expect our partners to approach us with respect for our sovereignty, not proximity.
For land acknowledgments, please reach out directly to the Muwekma Ohlone Preservation Foundation. ANHP only delivers land acknowledgments at events where we are directly involved as organizers.
Additional Considerations
- Planning Timeline
We ask for at least 2–4 weeks’ notice for partnerships involving space use or public-facing programming. For larger collaborations or funding-dependent efforts, we encourage reaching out as early as possible. - Accessibility
We strive to ensure our events are accessible to all. If you are offering a venue or participating in co-hosting, please let us know about accessibility features (ADA access, restrooms, parking) or limitations in advance. - Media & Documentation
We take the privacy and dignity of our participants seriously. While ANHP may sometimes agree to media clauses as an organization, this does not extend to our participants. We do not and cannot waive their rights.
It is the sole responsibility of partners, vendors, and any third-party media professionals to obtain informed consent and ensure proper credit and cultural context when documenting any aspect of ANHP events. Especially if that content will be published anywhere.
